Google.com adds Material Theme search bar on desktop web

Google.com adds Material Theme search bar on desktop web

Cludo
Last November, Google brought the first Material Theme elements to Search on desktop web, with mobile tweaks following afterwards. The Google.com homepage today features a pill-shaped search field to complete the visual redesign. The first Material Theme elements introduced to Search was on the results page. Google introduced a pill-shaped search field at the top of the screen that expanded to include a rounded list of auto-complete suggestions as users typed. As users scrolled down, the search bar — along with the Google logo, profile image, and web app launcher — would remain docked to the top of the screen. This allows for a new query without having to first scroll above. Meanwhile, other new elements included rounded Knowledge Graph cards and carousels. Despite this revamp,

Google has confirmed with Search Engine Land that they have begun rolling out a new search results page design that has the a rounded search bar that sticks to the top of the page as you scroll through the search results. Google began testing this new design back in August and is now rolling it out to all searchers. New header: The main difference from the old search bar header is that the new one now will stick to the top of the search results page as you scroll down to see more search results. The old design did not do that, in order to access the search bar, you had to scroll back up to the top of the page. The other difference is the search bar is no longer a box, it is now rounded. Here is how it looks when you scroll down the page: Only on desktop...

Rebecca Treston QC raises the bar for women in Queensland

As far as Rebecca Treston QC – the Queensland Bar's first woman president – is concerned, "Dr Google" is one of the biggest challenges facing advocates.Along with the high cost of legal services and the "frequency with which solicitors are doing traditional barristers' work", Ms Treston gives the internet search engine a dishonourable mention."Every client that comes in has done research on you as the barrister and they have a pretty fair idea of the cases that are around that are like their's," she says."It's never a good thing at the doctor and it's certainly not a good thing in a piece of litigation." The best strategy, she adds, is to tell the client "in the nicest possible way that it's not as simple as reading the cases on the internet". Advertise

The Google Material Theme is coming to more and more products as seen with Android P DP4 and Google Maps just last month. This new look is now being tested in one aspect of the Google app, while a related redesign of the Google Feed is more widely rolling out. Nintendo Switch In recent weeks, we’ve spotted the Google app testing a new search bar directly underneath the logo and just above the list of Feed articles. This new design drops the previous slightly rounded, rectangular box for a pill-shaped search bar. This faint gray outlined boundary drops the shadow effect for a cleaner look that is inline with Google’s Material Theme, as well as the proliferation of pill buttons throughout the company’s recent updates. Meanwhile, back in April, the Google app began testing a new loo

Google is rolling out its first significant update since launching Podcasts this week. For the most part, this appears to be primarily a bug fix and polishing release. There are little tweaks here and there related to Podcasts, including a corrected icon. There's also the start of a search feature for settings so people won't have to wander through several screens to configure the app as they want it. Podcasts icon Left: v8.8. Right: v8.9. For those of you that like consistency, it may have been a bit frustrating that Google launched Podcasts with a mismatched icon. In v8.8, the status icon was the fairly generic antenna with broadcast lines, but in official branding for Podcasts used a unique soundwave-like design with Google colors. A smaller variant has been brought in to cor...

Chrome OS has been rapidly evolving over the past few months, mostly in regards to Linux application support. There are even more improvements in the works, from minor UI changes to a major reworking of Chrome OS' Bluetooth functionality. First, Googler François Beaufort revealed that the Chrome team is experimenting with an updated address bar. Much like on mobile, search results include thumbnails and brief descriptions. You can try it out for yourself by enabling the #omnibox-rich-entity-suggestions flag and restarting Chrome. This is only on the Dev/Canary channels for now, but it also works on all desktop platforms. Improved search results in Chrome address bar Next, XDA Developers discovered that support for Android app shortcuts is coming. This Gerrit commit reveals that ap
